Bertram council turns to own for police chief ’s chair


The Bertram city council chose to promote Doug Wall from sergeant to police chief Tuesday evening.

After more than half an hour of internal deliberation, the Bertram city council voted unanimously to promote a current sergeant and interim police chief to the fulltime position, which has been vacant since its last police chief left in June. Sgt. Doug Wall, who has been with the department for four years, was one of two finalists for the job. Captain James Loving, who has been in law enforcement since 1985, was the other candidate.
