Early voting heavy in runoff

July 30, 2012, 9:00 pm by James Walker

The long, hard-fought and often contentious local political campaigns will all but end today for voters in Burnet and Llano counties.

In Burnet County there were 2,357 people who voted early in the Republican runoff and 78 who voted in the Democratic runoff.

Those numbers are considered high for a runoff compared to those who voted in the primary.

The primary drew 2,844 from the Republican side and 179 Democrats.

There were 2,003 people who voted early in the Republican runoff in Llano County. No figures were available for Llano County Democrats.

The polls were scheduled to open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m.

Voters will decide the winner in Republican primary runoff races for District Attorney, the 25th Congressional District seat, the U.S. Senate, the Llano County Precinct 1 County Commissioner race and the Burnet County Pct. 2 Constable position in today’s election.

Voter interest appears to be high, judging by the large turnout elections officials reported for the early voting period that ended Saturday.
