Track teams host Wells Fargo Relays

The Burnet Bulldog track teams host their annual Wells Fargo Relay meet last Saturday.

The varsity Lady Dawgs took third place overall as a team with 124.5 points. Fredericksburg took first followed by Liberty Hill in second.

The JV girls finished in fourth overall with 84 points as a team.

In the mens division Burnet’s JV team took third place overall, while the varsity team took sixth. Individual results were as follows.

JV Girls-

100: Brittany Barksdale, fifth, 14.40; and Hunter Holmes, 15.56.

200: Jade Alsbrook, fourth, 29.43; and Ashley Hallmark, 31.88.

400: Alexandra Hahn, 1:15.49.

800: Brandi Bond, fourth, 2:47.52.

1600: Hailey Letterman, fifth, 6:23.52.

100 Hurdles: Ashley Bernal, fifth, 19.20; and Summer Jackson, 22.37.

400 Relay: Burnet, third, 55.20, Alyssa Box, Hallmark, Alsbrook, and Jessica Chamberlain.

800 Relay: Burnet, third, 1:59.80, Box, Hallmark, Alsbrook, and Chamberlain.

1600 Relay: Burnet, fifth, 4:58.35, Box, Bernal, Bond, and Letterman.

Long Jump: Hallmark, fifth, 13’3.

Shot Put: Araceli Torres, third, 25’10.50; Desiree Vajgrt, fourth, 25’8; and Sierra Flores, fifth, 24’9.

Discus: Angelica Watson, second, 73’; and Vajgrt, third, 70’3.

Triple Jump: Chamberlain, fifth, 28’3.50.

Pole Vault: Barksdale, first, 8’.

Olympian honored on Saturday, Sunday

Olympic silver medalist Leonel Manzano and his family will be honored at several events in Marble Falls and Granite Shoals in the final two days of his homecoming celebration, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30.

Manzano’s run expected to air in prime time

While it is not known if local runner Leo Manzano’s first running event of the 2012 Olympics will be shown in full on television, interested Marble Falls residents and University of Texas fans will have to wait until prime time to see him on NBC.

Manzano races at 2:05 p.m. Friday

Marble Falls runner Leo Manzano’s first race in the 2012 Olympics is 2:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 (Texas time) in London.

The 2004 Marble Falls High graduate and two-time NCAA champion for the University of Texas is the top American qualifier in the 1,500-meter race, but Kenyans are considered the favorites in the event.
