JV Dawgs win final game of 2012
Burnet’s JV football team made the short trip to Lampasas for their final game of the 2012 season last Thursday night. It turned out to be an exciting way to end the year with a sweet 24-22 win for the Bulldogs.
Burnet took to the field with their offense first and ran nearly five minutes off the first quarter clock with a 93-yard drive that resulted in the game’s first score. The Dawgs used runs by Taylor Barksdale, Lance Armentrout, Jonathan Brown, and catches by Jamal Brown, Anthony Martinez, and Cody Jones to move the ball across mid-field.
On third and 21 from the Lampasas 46 Jones pulled in a pass from Barksdale at the 10-yard line and after one swift move and a stiff arm he danced into the endzone. Alex Melvin kicked the PAT making it 7-0 Burnet.
Following a special team’s tackle by Jes Craig Lampasas set-up shop at their own 34-yard line. The Badgers scored on the fifth play of the drive and added the two-point conversion with 3:50 in the first taking an 8-7 lead.
The Dawgs couldn’t get the ball moving on offense and had to punt after just three plays. Curtis Readance dropped the Badger RB on play one, but Burnet fans were really rocking on the next snap when Jamal Brown emerged from a pile-up with the ball and took it 45-yards the other way for a Burnet score. With 1:33 in the quarter Melvin kicked the PAT and Burnet was up 14-8.

Dawgs now 2-2 with big win over Llano
The Burnet Bulldogs improved their district record to 2-2 on Friday night with a 62-34 win over the Llano Yellowjackets on the road. With 5:24 left in the first on a fourth down and goal from the two Llano elected to push across the goal line with a run. The Dawg’s defense was there quick and stacked up the runner moving him backwards but a very delayed whistle allowed the pile to be pushed long after forward progress was stopped and the Jackets got on the board first, 6-0 after a missed PAT.
