Growing up I remember going to my grandparents house with my family on Decoration Day. We had a meeting at the church, visits to the cemetery and later a picnic lunch.
Today it is called Memorial Day. It was established in 1868 to honor those from the Civil War. We observe the day now to honor those who have died in military service for the United States.
