Agarita is in bloom. The branches of the native Agarita shrub located in a nearby field are covered in small yellow blossoms. These flowers will be followed by small, juicy red fruit.

The literature about this shrub says that these small fruits can be harvested and made into jelly. The method for doing so involves placing a blanket or towel under the branches and gently taping them with a stick so that the fruit falls on the blanket or towel. The leaves of this shrub need to be avoided as they have very sharp bristles on them.

I understand that these little red fruits can be made into jelly. However I don’t remember seeing much fruit because the birds eat it all really quickly.
