Veterans Day

Friday, November 11 is Veterans Day. Every year we celebrate Veterans Day on the 11th and it doesn’t get moved to a Monday as some other federal holidays do. It was first celebrated as Armistice Day which was the day noted as the end of World War I. It was recognized as being the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Throughout the coming week many events such as parades, discounts for veterans and even some free meals will be offered to show appreciation to honor our veterans. Fajita Dinner & Auction

The Northeast Burnet County Fire/Rescue Department is hosting an allyou-can-eat Fajita Dinner on Saturday, November 12 in Oakalla. Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the Auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a gun drawing.

Prices are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 10 years of age. A dessert table will be available and those proceeds will go to the Oakalla Library and Oakalla Community Center. There will also be an ATM on site.

The address is 29111 FM 963, Oakalla, TX 78608. Accident on FM 2657

Around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday Morning an accident occurred approximately three miles north of Briggs on FM 2657 near the Mill Creek Bridge.

The roadway on either side of this bridge has been the site of many accidents in the past. Perhaps the site’s long curves and low inclines make it unusually hazardous.

Mahomet Christian Church Members of the Mahomet Christian Church (DOC) met on Sunday and elected officers and appointed committees in preparation for a new church building. A couple of years ago their building was destroyed by arson.
